Working Certificate Workshops

The LOC is pleased to offer our Working Certificate training workshops once again starting on Sunday March 16, 2008 and continuing every Sunday until May 11, 2008 – finishing just in time for our Annual Working Certificate and Hunt Test at Valens on May 31st and June 1st! The workshops will be held at the Clairville Conservation Area (just off Steeles, west of the 427) starting at noon and finishing about 3:00pm.

The objective of the workshops is to give you the tools you need to help prepare both you and your dog towards the successful completion of a Working Certificate test.

“The primary objective of the WC, WCI and WCX tests is to encourage the development and use of those natural abilities for which retrievers were originally bred. The tests provide a means to help determine future breeding stock, encourage retriever owners to develop their dogs’ natural abilities and to have retrievers become more proficient as hunting partners.”[1]

There is nothing like watching your Labrador Retriever actually do what they were bred to do. It’s not only fun for your dog, but a wonderful opportunity for you to work with your dog on something they love to do – retrieve.

And if you’ve always wondered about helping out with a Working Certificate or Hunt test, we’ll be spending some time taking the mystery out of it. Your instructors will be reviewing what a judge is looking for when they set up a test, what the role and responsibilities are of the gunners and marshal and exactly what happens the day of a test.

Come on out and have fun with your dog[2]!
